I always find point and click games to be interesting. While simple in design, I find many be be a great way to waste some time. Zombie Desperation falls into this category perfectly. The game is very simple to play and it doesn’t strive to be more than that. However, the game does have a few issues that I found to be incredibly annoying.
The game is broken into six stages. The goal of each stage is to shoot everything that comes at you and live as long as possible. Besides your normal everyday zombies you have some ones that have armor or ones that aren’t even zombies. Most can be killed with a headshot although a few body shots work too. Each level starts out slow and as time progresses the amount of zombies that come at you intensifies. If you survive for a certain amount of time you unlock the next stage. If the zombies get too close to you, you start to take damage and eventually will die.
When you kill zombies, they randomly spawn weapons, items and health to help you. Unlike your main weapon which has unlimited ammo, these weapons only have a few shots. These include shotguns, machine guns, grenade launchers and flame throwers. Items like freeze grenades stop everything for a short time while adrenaline slows everything around you. These are all insanely powerful and useful.
The game uses 2d graphics for everything and it looks decent. There is nothing here that is going to make you go “Wow” but it gets the job done. Audio is also decent, but nothing to go into detail about. Overall a average looking and sounding game.
My only problem with the game is how random the item drops can be. Sometimes you take out four zombies and two weapons drop. Other times you take out twenty and nothing. This becomes a problem when you're trying to unlock the next stage and you have to stay alive for a certain amount of time. With the amount of zombies coming at you those weapons and items are almost mandatory.
With my only problem aside, I had fun with this game. The game is easy to pick up and play and it kept me entertained. There isn’t much content here though besides the six stages and a leaderboard. The game is fun for awhile but will get repetitive quickly.
