When I was a kid I had a few snowball fights with my brother. While it was only the two of us, it was fun for a little while until one of us got hit in the face with one. That short burst of fun back then describes Super Snow Fight. It is a game that is a good pick and play game for short bursts of time.
Not a lot of variety here, but you do have some options as far as pregame settings.
Before each match you pick between deathmatch or team deathmatch along with bot difficulty, time limit and score limit. The character you pick to play as is for cosmetic looks only. The arenas are all mostly the same with the third one having some environmental hazards. There are five difficulties for the bots and there is a small but noticeable difference in the difficulty. There is also an option for manual or auto aiming. I found manual to be better every time.
The gameplay is very simple but surprisingly fun. Matches are between two to four players and the action is fairly constant. You have five hit points and five snowballs to start. You can charge a snowball before you throw it which increases its range and damage. You can reload your snowballs when you run out. Power-ups randomly show up on the map that can give you an offensive or defensive edge. Friendly fire is also a factor in team deathmatches.
The game does have a decent amount of unlockables. Winning matches unlocks new arenas and winning in these arenas unlocks new playable characters. There are three unlockable arenas and each arena has five characters to unlock. When I unlocked new arenas, more power ups were unlocked as well. From my playtime with the game, I could not see a set way to unlock new characters or arenas, all I had to do was keep winning and eventually they unlocked. With that said, while the power-ups add some variety the new characters all play the same.
Graphicly, the game looks alright. The characters and stages are detailed to a degree, but nothing outstanding. The audio is slightly better. The music and sound effects were fun and I never tired of listening to them. If you are buying this game, it is not going to be for its audio or art design. I will say though I enjoyed the rag-doll physics.
The only issue I have with the game is the lack of solo replay ability once you unlock everything. Since everything can be unlocked in under two hours, if you are a solo player you are going to be finished with the game quickly. Now, if you have friends to play with or you want a quick pick up and play game with bots this is still a viable option.
If you want a quick pick up and play game for a few minutes this game is good for that. Depending on your setting the matches only last a few minutes. While this game is not the greatest, it is fun for what it is.
