Project RIP is a single player first person shooter developed and published by Storming Tech. In this game, demons have overrun the Earth and pushed humanity underground. Humanity fights back by sending in agents to fight these demons. Killing demons with these agents lets you capture souls that can be used to upgrade everything from weapons to abilities. You also gain experience that levels up your account.
Currently the game has three stages that, while different, all look pretty much the same. Each stage has five difficulty settings that make the enemies harder and more abundant, but also give you more rewards. Each stage has waves of enemies that come at you from all angles. There are power-ups scattered around like extra damage or limited invincibility. More importantly, are the ammo and health packs. Each stage ends when you defeat all the waves or you die. Overall the game play felt good, some hiccups here and there with collision detection, but nothing that I would not expect for an indie game that just came out.
As you level up you gain access to more weapons, agents and perks. Weapons can be upgraded using souls you get from doing stages. Agents have different stats and once you unlock them all you can pick one that suits your play style. There is a decent variety of weapons to unlock and so far all the ones I have unlocked felt unique. The perks are also a nice touch that lets you customize how you want to play.
The game looks and sounds good. There are only a few stages but more can be added later. The same goes for perks and weapon selection. While I like the idea of competing on a leaderboard, the lack of multiplayer is going to hurt this game. There are other games out there that do pretty much what this one is doing with multiplayer. Still, this is a game that I came across and looked like something I would enjoy. I enjoyed my time in the game and I can definitely see myself coming back to this one over and over again.
Note: At the time of this article there is an Arena stage were enemies keep coming at you until you die. I didn’t reach a high enough rank to test this stage. Also, The screenshots are from the Early Access build of the game. The screenshots were taken a few days before the game got an official release.
