Nintendo Gamecube

The Nintendo Gamecube is a system that I didn't buy much for when it was current. My friends got a Gamecube long before I did. A big thing for us was to go over to my friend's apartment and play Mario Kart Double Dash. Even with that though I never saw the need for me to get a Gamecube for myself. Everything I got was for either the PC or Xbox and anything else I got was for the Playstation 2. However, two events happened that changed my mind to get one, Custom Robo and the Gameboy Adapter.
Custom Robo came at a time when I was looking for a mech game to play. I read about the game and all the parts you could combine to make your robot and I was sold. I remember calling one of the stores in the area to see if they got a copy in and I ended up driving an hour to get the game. While the game may not have been as great as I was expecting, I'm still glad I got it. Other games followed but Custom Robo was my first Gamecube game.
The Gameboy Player addon for the Gamecube was another big reason that I ended up getting a Gamecube. Growing up I did have a gameboy color but I rarely ever used it. I saw this as a way to play a bunch of games that I never did growing up. I never really did get much of a gameboy collection, but I did end up getting a few games for it. I feel that the gameboy player is is still a great addon for the Gamecube.
However, when I finally did get a Gamecube I did not get many games for it. The only notable games I got were Batallion Wars, Resident Evil and Die Hard Vendetta. If I wanted a game that was on multiple platforms I usually got it on the Xbox. This is not to say I did not like the Gamecube, I was just more vested into other systems at the time. As time went on with the system I got a few other small games and I ended up moving on to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 when they came out.
Fast forward to 2015 and it's only now that I have been seriously collecting for the Gamecube. I've gotten most of the big ones like Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros Melee, Skies of Arcadia Legends just to name a few. Still, I bought most of the multiplatform games that came out at this time on other systems, so I only ever get Gamecube exclusives. So I don't expect my collection to grow much bigger as time goes on.
Much like the N64, I don't have much to say about the Gamecube. It was a fun system that my friends and I did play group games on but when compared to other platforms that were out at the time I just wasn't into it. Looking back now there were some great games for the system and I'm glad I have the opportunity to go back and play them now. While I never expect my Gamecube collection to reach the level of my Xbox and NES collections, it is still a good system to buy for.
